In honor of Friday’s Disney+ Day, Disney has officially released a ‘Behind The Scenes’ featurette on the upcoming Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Directed by Deborah Chow, Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place between the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005) and Star Wars: A New Hope (1977) and focuses on Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) living in Tatooine and tasked with watching over a young Luke Skywalker.
“This is quite a dark time that we’re coming into with him,” says Chow about Obi-Wan in the featurette. “Just being a Jedi, it’s not safe. There’s Jedi Hunters out there.”
In the featurette, many of the concept designs were revealed, including Obi-Wan facing his biggest threat — Darth Vader. The series will see the return of Hayden Christensen as the villainous foe for Obi-Wan. There will be another battle between the Jedi Master and his former apprentice.
“The most beautiful thing of all is that it brought back me together with Hayden,” says McGregor. “Have a nice swing at each other. It might be quite satisfying for everybody.”
The cast also includes Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.
The series description was also revealed, “The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”
Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2022.
