Final Trailer for ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ Teases the Familiar and the Unprecedented

Déjà vu.

In the world of The Matrix, déjà vu usually means that there’s a glitch. It occurs when something has been changed within the code of this machine-run world.

The latest and final trailer for the upcoming fourth installment, The Matrix Resurrections, most definitely heightens in on that theme, as moments from the previous films parallel with moments from this new one. But it’s Bugs (Jessica Henwick) who contemplates for impending audiences that perhaps what we thought we knew before about the direction Neo’s story has gone and going in is about to make a hard left turn; one that could lead to a whole other war.

What appeared in the original film as a black cat might actually be what’s continuing the ongoing parallels between Keanu Reeves’ Kung Fu Jesus (a.k.a. Neo) and… just regular Jesus. The fact that it won’t be that much longer before audiences finally find out what happens in this latest dive down the rabbit hole is, as Tank puts it best:

The Matrix Resurrections comes to theaters and HBO Max on Wednesday, December 22.
