I walked out of a screening of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever this morning, overcome with emotion after mourning Chadwick Boseman for the previous three hours. As soon as my phone turned on, it lit up with notification after notification alerting me to the news that we had lost another superhero. Kevin Conroy, most fans’ favorite Batman, had passed at the age of 66.
Best known as the voice of Batman in the ’90s animated series created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, Conroy went on to voice the character in the Arkham video games, several animated movies, and finally played a live action version of the Dark Knight in The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event.
For years, Mark Hamill played opposite Conroy as the Joker. In a statement, the actor remembered his co-star as “perfection.”
“He was one of my favorite people on the planet, and I loved him like a brother,” said Hamill. “He truly cared for the people around him – his decency shone through everything he did. Every time I saw him or spoke with him, my spirits were elevated.”
Well, shit. Truly depressing.
