The Cast of Netflix’s ‘Firefly Lane’ Discusses the Final Season

Part 1 of Firefly Lane season 2 is now streaming on Netflix and I had the opportunity to speak with Sarah Chalke, Ali Skovbye, and Roan Curtis all about it! Part 2, which will include episodes 10 – 16 of the final season, will be released on June 8, 2023.

What could possibly have ended the tight-knit thirty-year friendship of Tully and Kate, our “Firefly Lane Girls Forever?” We’ll learn the answer this season — but first — Kate grapples with the painful aftermath of Johnny’s ill-fated trip to Iraq, while Tully faces a lawsuit after walking away from her talk show, and must start her career over from the bottom. This leads her to search for answers about who she is and where she comes from — including a quest to find the father she never met, against the wishes of her secretive hippie mother, Cloud. In the ’80s, we see Kate and Johnny first fall in love, creating more than a little drama in the newsroom where they work, as Tully’s career rises and she spars (and flirts!) with cocky sportscaster Danny Diaz. She just might have met her match — that is, if they can stop arguing for five minutes. While in the ’70s, teenage Kate and Tully struggle to keep their friendship together as Cloud goes to jail for dealing drugs and Tully goes to live with her grandmother, far away from Firefly Lane. As the girls face the tumult of high school apart, they know the one thing they really need is each other.

Chalke’s other television work includes Roseanne, How I Met Your Mother, Speechless, Friends from College, Backstrom, How to Live with Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life), Mad Love, Scrubs, and Nothing Too Good for a Cowboy. Her film credits include Eat Wheaties!, Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, The Wrong Missy, After the Reality, Chaos Theory, Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy, Alchemy, XCU: Extreme Close Up, Spin Cycle, All Shook Up, I’ve Been Waiting for You, Our Mother’s Murder, Dying to Belong, Stand Against Fear, as well as Robin of Locksley.

Additionally, the actress has lent her voice to characters in Rick and Morty, Dogs in Space, Paradise PD, and Milo Murphy’s Law.

Skovbye’s notable film work includes Imperfect High, The Corruption of Divine Providence, and Breakthrough. She has also made appearances on When Calls the Heart, The Gourmet Detective, The Man in the High Castle, and You Me Her.

Curtis can be recognized for Secrets of a Gold Digger Killer, The Magicians, Shut Eye, Before I Fall, as well as In God I Trust.

We had wonderful conversations about the heartbreaking ending to Part 1, showing the complexity of female friendships, what they’re taking away from the project, the journey of their characters, their most rewarding storylines, and much more!
