‘School Spirits’ Cast and Creators Preview Their New Paramount+ Series

It may be almost spring, but it’s not too late to get spooky! Season 1 of School Spirits premieres March 9 on Paramount+ and we couldn’t be more excited for our newest YA obsession.

SCHOOL SPIRITS is centered around Maddie, a teen girl stuck in the afterlife investigating her own mysterious disappearance. Maddie goes on a crime-solving journey as she adjusts to high school purgatory, but the closer she gets to discovering the truth, the more secrets and lies she uncovers.

School Spirits stars Peyton List as protagonist Maddie. Other main cast members include Maddie’s friends Simon (Kristian Flores) and Nicole (Kiara Pichardo), her boyfriend Xavier (Spencer MacPherson), and classmate Claire (Rainbow Wedell). Maddie also meets Rhonda (Sarah Yarkin), Charley (Nick Pugliese), and Wally (Milo Manheim) in the afterlife.

Oliver Goldstick (Pretty Little Liars, Bridgerton) serves as showrunner and executive producer. Nate and Megan Trinrud, who co-wrote the upcoming graphic novel the series is based on, serve as additional executive producers. Max Wrinkler (Cruel Summer, Jungleland) directed the pilot and executive produced the first two episodes this season. List is also a producer.

The first three episodes of School Spirits will be available to stream on Paramount+ on March 9 in the US, with each new episode dropping weekly afterwards. The season will consist of eight episodes.

The Nerds of Color was lucky enough to get to speak to cast members Peyton List, Sarah Yarkin, Nick Pugliese, Kristian Flores, Kiara Pichardo, Spencer MacPherson, and Rainbow Wedell (plus Oliver Goldstick and Nate and Megan Trinrud!) ahead of the series premiere for a special preview. We chatted about what viewers can get excited for, the cast chemistry, upcoming ships, and much more.
