‘American Born Chinese’ Premieres May 24 on Disney+

The anticipated Disney+ original series American Born Chinese has a premiere date — May 24! In honor of Everything Everywhere All At Once‘s Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Stephanie Hsu, all who all appear in American Born Chinese, Disney+ released a 30-second TV spot that will air during tonight’s Oscars telecast commercial breaks.

In the clip, Yeoh, who plays Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, warns Jin that dark forces are coming and the fate of the world hangs in the balance. Jin, alongside Wei-Chan, must do what it takes to fight the evil that is coming for them. We see a bit of Guanyin’s powers being used in the trailer alongside quick clips of Quan and Hsu.

Soon, after tonight’s Academy Awards, American Born Chinese will have to change the cards to reflect tonight’s winners. Here’s to hoping for Yeoh, Quan, and Hsu to take it all tonight!

Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Gene Luen Yang, American Born Chinese tells the story of Jin Wang (Ben Wang), an average Chinese American teenager dealing with high school. As one of the only Asian kids in school, he’s assigned to show the new foreign exchange student Wei-Chen (Jimmy Liu) around to acclimate to the American school system. Little does Jin know, he’s about to be entangled in a battle of Chinese mythological gods.

The series also stars Daniel Wu, Yeo Yann Yann, and Syndney Taylor. Emmy Award-winning writer/producer Kelvin Yu serves as executive producer and showrunner. Yang, Erin O’Malley, Asher Goldstein, Melvin Mar and Jake Kasdan serve as executive producers, and Destin Daniel Cretton as director and executive producer.
