Alycia Debnam-Carey and Josh Bonzie Talk Their New Show, ‘Saint X’

Alycia Debnam-Carey and Josh Bonzie star as Emily and Clive in Saint X, which is an eight-episode series adapted from Alexis Schaitkin’s novel. The first three episodes are now streaming on Hulu. New episodes will be released weekly.

The series, which is told via multiple timelines, explores, and upends the girl gone-missing genre as it explores how a young woman’s mysterious death during an idyllic Caribbean vacation creates a traumatic ripple effect that eventually pulls her surviving sister into a dangerous pursuit of the truth.

“A concept that Josh and I had both talked about that I was really, I guess, uniquely interested in this particular narrative was how when something so traumatic happens that a certain group of people experience, it bonds them in a way that no one else will experience. And for these two characters, we sort of had talked about that there’s this sort of invisible thread that is between them that has fatefully connected them in time and space and that is sort of push and pull and that kind of interesting energetic connection,” Debnam-Carey explained to me.

“The heart of the character was what really spoke to me,” Bonzie shared. “What really kind of helped me make it personal was that this is someone who just wanted to have a good life and I think that we can all resonate with that. And so, getting to play that and then the obstacles of that were really kind of personally special to me.”
