‘The Fall Guy’ is Already Setting Records

It’s been a heck of a week for Ryan “I’m Just Ken” Gosling! After unleashing perhaps the greatest musical performance in Oscar history, Gosling and his “Barbenheimer rival” Emily Blunt joined director David Leitch and co-star Hannah Waddingham at SXSW in Austin to debut The Fall Guy. And in addition to getting terrific reception, audiences discovered the movie has set a very unique Guinness World Record!

The Fall Guy is ultimately an homage to stunt performers everywhere, centering on a stuntman who gets wrapped up in a murder plot, and must find a way to solve a crazy conspiracy, while also rekindling a spark with his ex. With Leitch being a former stuntman, and a director for some crazy stunt-driven movies like John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and others, it was no wonder the team behind the film aimed to set an insane world record: the Guinness World Record for the most cannon rolls in a car, in any movie!

Now those out there who aren’t professional stunt people may wonder what the heck a cannon roll is. A cannon roll is a classic stunt dating back to the early days of cinema, where a cannon-like apparatus is set beneath a car, which shoots toward the ground. As the vehicle reaches a designated speed, the mechanism triggers and propels the car into a series of rolls. Doing one is dangerous enough. But the record set within the movie is a whopping eight-and-a-half cannon rolls!

Universal has released a quick featurette discussing how the amazing feat was set by amazing stunt driver Logan Holladay:

Fun fact: the previous record for cannon rolls in a car was set by stuntman Adam Kirley for the 007 film, Casino Royale. But Holladay has obliterated that record with his stunning eight-and-a-half cannon rolls for the film.

In addition to the featurette, Universal and IMAX revealed a really cool, retro-style poster at SXSW which you can see here!

Thrills, chills, and spills! The Fall Guy has it all! Catch it only in theaters, May 3, 2024!
