Bailee Madison portrays Imogen Adams in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School and since the series takes place within the existing PLL universe, Annabeth Gish is reprising her role as Dr. Anne Sullivan this season! New episodes are released weekly, Thursdays on Max and this interview will contain spoilers for 2×05.
Following the harrowing events of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, our Pretty Little Liars face a fate worse than death – summer school. However, Millwood High isn’t the only thing getting in the way of their fun summer jobs and new, dreamy love interests. A new villain, who may or may not have a connection to A, has come to town and is going to put them all to the test.

“I was so excited when I heard Annabeth was joining. I mean, it really was like, one, a dream come true for my heart, who grew up a huge fan of the original, and the fact that it was like the most kismet full circle nod in the sense that Dr. Sullivan was introduced in the second season of the original. Now, we’re on our second season and naturally, we’re in therapy,” Madison explained. “Like you said, sometimes shows shy away from taking time in a room like that, where it just is dialogue and nothing else crazy is going around, but it’s just humans interacting in the simplest form. But that is important to our show. It’s important that in the moments of the fun and the mayhem that we’re sitting with these characters and reminding the audience that there’s stakes there, and there’s trauma and there’s real emotion.”
Gish shared her reaction to this new twist for her character, expressing, “Ethically, for me, as one who does go to therapy myself, it would be such a betrayal if I ever knew that my therapist had written something, or shared my secrets or innermost thoughts. So, yes, I was disappointed in Dr. Sullivan, but as with everything in Pretty Little Liars land, there’s usually a good reason of some sort and more will be revealed in six and seven.”

We talked about Dr. Sullivan’s big revelation, the importance of including therapy scenes, how Bloody Rose escalates everything, and more.
