‘Lanterns’ Officially *Greenlit* at HBO

The DCU is in full swing folks! True to his word over a year ago, James Gunn’s vision of the DC Universe is starting to take shape. Filming on Superman is in full swing. Peacemaker Season 2 is on the way! Creature Commandos is officially coming end of this year. Supergirl is in pre-production. And as of today, the Green Lantern Corp will be joining the fight in the new HBO Original Drama Series, Lanterns.

Today, the new series officially got the greenlight (no pun intended), and the incredibly exciting thing about this is that the folks behind the series will be none other than Tom King, Damon Lindelof (HBO’s Watchmen, The Leftovers), and Chris Mundy (True Detective: Night Country). We know, at minimum, King and Lindelof know their DC stuff!

As confirmed by Gunn and Peter Safran at their DCU announcement in January 2023, the series will be a True Detective-inspired buddy cop series centering on Hal Jordan and John Stewart. This explains why Mundy was brought in as well. Together they’ll uncover an ancient mystery and a murder that occurs on Earth in America — one that will have potential major ramifications on the fate of the entire DC Universe.

The show will also be executive produced by King, Lindelof, and Mundy. We’ll be super excited to see who the team, along with Gunn and Safran, cast as our two buddy cop Lanterns!

No details about when the series will be premiering. But you can bet we’ll be there to cover all the news as soon as it comes up. So stay tuned to The Nerds of Color for more news on Lanterns and the DC Universe going forward!
