Anthony Mackie, Morena Baccarin, and Maddie Hasson Discuss ‘Elevation’

Anthony Mackie, Morena Baccarin, and Maddie Hasson star in Elevation. The movie is currently playing exclusively in theaters.

Set in the post-apocalyptic Rocky Mountains, a single father and two women venture from the safety of their homes to face monstrous creatures to save the life of a young boy.

“I wanted to play my character older, so I grew my hair out. Like, not important, not a big thing, but I don’t know, I feel like if I cut my hair low, I look young and immature,” Mackie, who is also a producer, explained. “But just a half an inch of hair and I look like an adult that pays his taxes and doesn’t commit crimes.”

Baccarin opened up about what she learned, telling me, “Perseverance, I think, like pushing through uncomfortable, my chest is going to explode because I can’t breathe moments, you know?”

“I mean, I kind of fell into the role a bit,” Hasson expressed. “But I think what intrigued me about the story was Katie and that’s kind of how I work. I don’t like to think big picture, I like to just think about the person and there were things about her that I could relate to quite quickly. I like that contradiction of hardness from past experiences and the desire to be soft. I really like that in a character.”

I spoke with the actors about the smaller details of their characters, which scene they were most nervous about filming, what the project taught each of them, and more.
