Thandiwe Newton and Steve Zahn are a delight as these comrades come together and brave the Amazon jungle in Brazil to film a remake of the 1997 Anaconda film. However, it’s not long before chaos ensues thanks to local gold miners and the appearance of the titular anaconda itself. A wild ride, this meta film-within-a-film comedy is a holiday hit that is heavy on the laughs and leans fully into the ridiculousness of its characters. With hysterical callbacks to its 1997 predecessor in addition to legendary surprises, this feels like Sony’s love letter to fans and the film industry alike.

We recently sat down with the stars to get an idea of what exactly informs a midlife crisis and chat about what it was like bringing this film to life. From Jack Black’s childhood obsession with a white Lamborghini Countach, to Thandiwe Newton trying to keep her fellow cast on-task, we had a great time learning about the things that have brought the cast joy both in life and while filming.
