Filmmakers Daniel Goldhaber & Isa Mazzei on Bringing ‘Faces of Death’ to a New Generation

The original Faces of Death feature is an infamous piece of VHS history, filled with shock and gore. It was passed around in the ’80s and ’90s as a rite of horror passage that made you question if what you were seeing was real or not.

Then, in the age of the internet, on various macabre sites, others came across clips without context that they were part of a movie. It was, in a way, the blueprint for creepypasta and viral horror. And in 2026, it’s back to explore its legacy in a sharp meta take on Faces of Death starring Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria) and Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things).

The Nerds of Color recently sat down with filmmakers Daniel Goldhaber (How to Blow Up a Pipeline) and Isa Mazzei (Cam). The duo co-wrote the script and discussed the lore of the original film, tackling its themes for a new generation.
