This sequel follows Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel The Book of Magic and keeps up with the times by adding some new faces to this film.
During last week’s CinemaCon presentation by Warner Bros., Nicole Kidman (Gillian Owens) and Sandra Bullock (Sally Owens) came onstage in a surprise appearance about halfway the event. After some fun banter (including a hilarious reference to Kidman’s AMC Theatres promo spot) and a heartwarming conversation about what it was like jumping back into their roles, we were treated to an exclusive look at the trailer. Xolo Maridueña, Joey King, and Lee Pace are among several new actors entering the world of the Owens family, which includes navigating their family’s multi-generational curse upon anyone they fall in love with.
As a fan of the first film, it will be interesting to see the story unfold with the youngest Owens daughters now exploring relationships and their own magic powers. According to Kidman and Bullock at CinemaCon, they were genuinely excited to continue this story, and they filled their characters’ shoes again with ease.
