The Kyoshi Warriors are an all-female order of warriors who protect Kyoshi Island in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Following their initial encounter with Aang and the rest of Team Avatar, they set off for the mainland Earth Kingdom to fight in the Hundred Year War. But will they be willing to compromise their values and practices as warriors, in order to conform to the expectations of Earth Kingdom soldiers?

Writer Brandon Hoàng dives into that in a trilogy of comics from Dark Horse Comics, simply titled The Kyoshi Warriors. In an interview for The Nerds of Color, he talks about the process of crafting the story throughout the comics, his previous experience of being an executive on The Legend of Korra, the difference between a soldier and a warrior, and his favorite characters and episodes from both respective shows.

The first Kyoshi Warriors comic is out now, with the remaining two to come out throughout the remainder of the year.
