Superman Kneels Before Zod in ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ Trailer

Sort of.

Just in time for the new NFL season, Paramount Pictures has unveiled the trailer for Mr. Irrelevant. Starring David Corenswet and Michael Shannon, the film tells the inspiring tale of John Tuggle, the last pick of the 1983 NFL Draft by the New York Giants who battled cancer shortly after making the League.

Portrayed by David Corenswet, the trailer shows Tuggle’s determination to make the team, as well as the charm and charisma it took to win over his teammates and legendary coach, Bill Parcells, played by Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon.

The super-elephant in the room, of course, is that the two leads of this sportsball movie come from the DC Universe. Corenswet is the current steward of the Superman mantle, while Shannon played General Zod in Man of Steel. Perhaps there’s a scene in which Parcells yells, “I WILL COACH HIM!”

But wait, there are even more Kryptonians in the cast! Though he isn’t prominently featured in the trailer, David Krumholtz — who played Superman’s uncle in Supergirl — is also in the cast as Julius Horai, a longtime staffer inside the Giants organization.

I’m sure these super coincidences weren’t lost on the casting director.

Mr. Irrelevant will be in theaters this Christmas.
