NOC Review: ‘Furiosa’ is a Fiercely Fun Fever Dream

“What a lovely day!” With those words audiences in 2015 were reintroduced to the world of George Miller’s Mad Max in Mad Max: Fury Road. In that masterpiece, they came to meet a new beloved franchise hero: Imperator Furiosa. It’s almost nine years to the date that Mad Max: Fury Road drove into theaters, and we find ourselves back in The Wasteland, albeit 20-30 years prior to the events of the previous epic, to learn about the origins of Furiosa, and how she became to be the fiercest warrior in the Post-Apocalypse. But was this a story we needed? After witnessing Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, I can safely say, yes it was, and I’m sure glad this was made!

NOC Review: ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ is Super Fun but Far From Invincible

In 1983, a spin off of the popular Donkey Kong arcade game hit arcades in Japan. That game was called Mario Bros., and featured the Jumpman hero of Donkey Kong, now named “Mario,” teaming up with his brother Luigi. The game became legend and 40 years later, the Super Mario Bros, as we know them today, are finally getting the big screen treatment they deserve (as I said before the 1993 movie doesn’t count). But is it the movie we deserve? Keep reading to see what we thought of The Super Mario Bros. Movie!

Discussing Donkey Kong with ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Star Seth Rogen

Donkey Kong is an icon! Little do people know Mario was actually a spin off of the original Donkey Kong game where the eponymous ape threw barrels at the then-unnamed character, “Jumpman,” who later became Mario. So when jumping into the role of the most famous video game ape in the world for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Seth Rogen had a lot to live up to. And thankfully, he nailed the role, like he was the king of the jungle!

Talking about Toad with Keegan-Michael Key of ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’

I’m not going to lie, Toad is my favorite character from the Mario franchise. He’s small, scrappy, courageous. And he’s literally the fastest accelerator in Mario Kart, which gives me the upper hand (I’m cheap like that). So it was exciting to hear that not only would he have a prominent role in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but also the talented voice behind him, Keegan-Michael Key, completely nailed the Toad voice!

Happy Mar10 Day from ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’

Which, for those unfamiliar, is the feast of Mario, patron saint of the Mushroom Kingdom, who defeated the evil King Koopa to save the princess and all the little toadstools from tyranny. It is a religious holiday for many, and to commemorate this, Nintendo and Illumination have released the final trailer for the highly anticipated The Super Mario Bros. Movie!

Hop on the Rainbow Road in the New Poster for ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’

2023 is a good year to be a Mario Brother! Just last week, guests at Universal Studios Hollywood got to experience the first US iteration of Super Nintendo Land, and in just two months, the plucky Italian plumbers are getting their very own animated movie (I would say “first movie” if I could, but that title is unfortunately tainted, and no amount of revisionist history can change that).

‘The Menu’ Celebrates Blu-ray Release with Blockbuster Style

When I first reviewed The Menu I initially liked, but didn’t love it. But after a bit more time, I’ve grown to like it more and more with each viewing. NOC Review: ‘The Menu’ is a Delightfully Devilish Delicacy

Elitism is a disease for which there is no cure. Despite the need for people to work towards the collective good of supporting one another, society has a tendency to try and hold rankings and create conflict out of those rankings based on wealth, power, and opportunity, resulting in humanity immersing itself into the throes of these ridiculous constructs of social hierarchy that elevate one individual over another. It’s a disease that also impacts how we view art, lifestyle, business, and politics, contributing to increased levels of human arrogance and self-satisfying entitlement. Which is why I’m grateful for a movie like The Menu that attacks this problem head on.

If you have not seen Edgar Wright and Krysty Wilson-Cairns’ Last Night in Soho yet, don’t sleep on it! It is a profound, and beautifully constructed indictment of toxic masculinity that features fantastic performances, and stunning imagery and music. Recently, we were given the opportunity to attend a roundtable with the duo behind the film, along with other members of the press as well.
