As if there was any doubt! The Super Mario Bros Movie was one of the biggest films of last year. And today, to celebrate Mario Day (MAR10), creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination have officially announced the sequel is in production!

While it wasn’t the biggest critical darling, in my opinion The Super Mario Bros. Movie was solid, rewatchable fun! And is still one of Illumination’s better films. It was always inevitable that the sequel to the biggest video game movie of all time was coming. But it was only a matter of when. And now we know!

The sequel to The Super Mario Bros Movie will be hitting theaters April 3, 2026! And returning to the director’s seats will be the first film’s helmers, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic.
