The Cast of ‘Bring it On: All or Nothing’ Reflects on Friendship and Legacy, 20 Years Later

L.A. Comic Con brought out some of our favorite fandom guests this year. We had the chance to speak with the cast and writer of Bring it On: All or Nothing, who are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their film.

The ’90s and 2000s were a pivotal time in millennial pop culture. In film, high-school-based stories were released regularly, finding diverse audiences with fun plots and relatable casts. I fondly remember my mom and aunt taking me to opening weekend of Bring it On and having a blast in the theater as we all enjoyed the high energy cheerleading, the pumping music, and the silly drama that unfolded. I quickly became a fan of its sequels, catching each of their releases once available on network television.

Making an impactful mark as the third installment in the franchise, Bring it On: All or Nothing quickly became one of my favorites. While it centered on Britney Allen (Hayden Panettiere), a White cheerleader’s journey transferring to a predominantly Black high school, I was impressed by the fact that this film prioritized following the mostly Black cheerleading team. Having been a fan of the Clovers cheer team from the first film, I’d always wondered what it would be like if we had a film dedicated solely to the adventures of a predominantly Black cheer squad. Panettiere’s performance became iconic, as she krumped her way into our hearts with her dedicated performance in this cult classic.

At L.A. Comic Con this year, nostalgia was at the forefront, and we had the exclusive opportunity to chat with Bring it On: All or Nothing cast members Giovonnie Samuels, Francia Raisa, Gustavo Carr, Cindy Chiu, Danielle Savre, Gary L. Gray, and writer Alyson Fouse, where they spoke about their enduring friendships, the passing of Hayden Panettiere earlier this year, and what they hope fans can take away from the film’s legacy.
