Hear Chris Pratt’s Voice in ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Trailer

Ever since it was announced, the most important issue on the Internet, plaguing all of humanity, was what Chris Pratt’s voice would sound like as Mario. And after months of speculation, panic, and memes, today Universal, Nintendo, and Illumination finally revealed the answer.

Chris Pratt’s voice in The Super Mario Bros. Movie sounds like… Chris Pratt! So the heading of this article is actually very literal. You are literally hearing Chris Pratt doing Chris Pratt’s voice in this trailer.

In all seriousness, I actually am not offended one bit by this. We’ve had the classic, albeit stereotypical, Italian voice for Mario since Nintendo 64. It’s okay for there to be different interpretations, for the same reasons Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire exist as Spider-Man. And Pratt and Illumination’s interpretation of the character is fine! We’ll be okay! Everyone remain calm!

Apart from that, the trailer looks terrific! The animation is great. Jack Black’s Bowser voice is awesome. The gag with the penguins and the snowballs was hilarious. Keegan-Michael Key’s Toad is awesome. And the short glimpses we got of Charlie Day’s Luigi look good too. As for Pratt, he’s trying a more Brooklyn accent. And to me that’s 100% fine and valid. Why not, right?

But I suppose I can’t hold the Internet back from hating anything and everything they can possibly provide an anonymous opinion on. So judge for yourself.

Earlier this week, Universal also debuted the first poster for the film, which you can see here:
