ABC’s ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is Coming Back for Season 18

Television’s longest-running medical drama will continue for another season! Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for season 18. According to Deadline, original cast members Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, and James Pickens Jr., whose current contracts are up at the end of this season, will all be returning for the new season. Pompeo (who also is a producer on Grey’s Anatomy) closed a new one-year deal while Wilson and Pickens Jr. both signed new contracts to continue their roles on the hit series.

This current season was definitely a special one, introducing the concept of the beach and bringing back some beloved familiar faces. Patrick Dempsey, T. R. Knight, Chyler Leigh, and Eric Dane all made an appearance to reunite with Pompeo’s character. Sarah Drew also made her return in 17×14, “Look Up Child,” giving fans another Japril centric episode. The show tackled many real-world issues this season that we are currently facing in the world today.

There was of course some losses this season as well, including a heartbreaking goodbye to Giacomo Gianniotti’s character, Dr. Andrew DeLuca. Coming up on May 20, fans will also say farewell to Jesse Williams, who plays Dr. Jackson Avery.

The Grey’s Anatomy spinoff, Station 19, was also renewed for season 5. New episodes of Grey’s Anatomy air Thursdays at 9 PM ET on ABC.
