LEGO Pokémon Brings Its ‘SMART Play’ Experience To Los Angeles This Weekend

Pokémon celebrates its 30th Anniversary, and The LEGO Group is celebrating by launching the LEGO Pokémon SMART Play Experience in Los Angeles.

What exactly is SMART Play technology? Using cutting-edge technology, SMART Play items – SMART Brick, SMART Tags, and SMART Minifigures – respond to the way you play with them, using interactive sound and lights. According to LEGO, “when you play, the SMART Brick plays back.”

Those living in Los Angeles have the opportunity to try out the LEGO Pokémon SMART Play Experience this weekend – September 26-27 – at the Americana at Brand in Glendale.

Attendees will participate in a classic Pokémon Trainer journey, inspired by the world of LEGO Pokémon. Parents can enjoy watching their kids play with screenless technology as they nurture, train, and battle their LEGO Pokémon creatures built with the LEGO SMART Play system. There are no screens – just LEGO bricks and minifigures.

During the event, participants will have the opportunity to choose a LEGO Pokémon partner to take on their journey – including brick-built fan favorites: Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur. “Trainers” will learn the basics of interacting with their LEGO Pokémon creatures via the LEGO SMART Brice and SMART Tags, and give players a hands-on experience to train their LEGO Pokémon to be stronger. According to The LEGO Group, “Throughout the experience, attendees will be on the lookout for brick-built Pokémon™ creatures to build up their Trainer knowledge, logging them in their provided free Trainer Guides with stickers to take home.”

Adjacent to the timed experience, fans can enjoy the free-flow LEGO SMART Play Lounge, where staff will lead demonstrations of the full LEGO Pokémon™ SMART Play assortment, featuring interactive, responsive play with the SMART Brick. There are also interactive photo opportunities, including LEGO Eevee and LEGO Pikachu models, and a chance to relive the Pokémon experience of choosing one of the original three iconic starter Pokémon. LEGO and Pokémon collectors alike can also check out the future sets and creatures released this year.

After the experience, just by showing the flyer from the SMART Play Experience, fans can continue their Pokémon journey by heading over to the LEGO Store at Glendale Galleria, where they can participate in a free LEGO Poké Ball SMART Tag Case make-and-take (September 26-27, 11:30 am – 5:30 pm). Brick Specialists will also be on hand to showcase LEGO Pokémon™ SMART Play sets.
