Netflix’s ‘The Chair’ Releases Trailer Featuring The Linda Lindas

It was Sandra Oh’s birthday yesterday, but Netflix and Oh decided to gift her fans a treat today with the official trailer to her upcoming Netflix comedy series, The Chair.

Created by Amanda Peet, Oh plays Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim is the first woman to chair the department and is faced with a unique set of challenges as well as being one of the few staff members of color at the university. She must also navigate through the dizzying demands and high expectations of the failing department at the prestigious Pembroke University.

Based on the trailer, we see she is struggling to connect with her fellow faculty — some of which who have been there for many, many years. She is also struggling with dealing with tenured professor, Dr. Bill Dobson, who seems to be falling apart and making the worst choices. Unfortunately, Ji-Yoon seems to have feelings for Bill, but, because she is his boss, refuses to act on it. We also see a glimpse of Ji-Yoon’s personal life raising a daughter with help from Ji-Yoon’s elderly father. It looks like we’ll be getting some sweet family moments as well.

The song playing in the trailer is called ‘Oh!,’ the new anticipated single by The Linda Lindas, a punk rock band based in Los Angeles. The band, which consists of young women of color, were recently featured in two of Netflix’s other films — The Claudia Kishi Club documentary and Amy Poehler-directed Moxie.

Oh also serves as executive producer for the series alongside Peet, David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Bernie Caulfield and Daniel Gray Longino, who also serves as director for all six episodes. The cast also includes Jay Duplass as Professor Bill Dobson; Holland Taylor as Professor Joan Hambling; Bob Balaban as Professor Elliot Rentz; Nana Mensah as Professor Yaz McKay; David Morse as Dean Paul Larson; Everly Carganilla as Ju-Hee “Ju Ju” Kim; among others.

The Chair premiere on August 20 on Netflix.
