Melissa McCarthy and Regina Hall Discuss ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’

Melissa McCarthy portrays Frances Welty and Regina Hall plays Carmel Schneider in Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers. The new series will be a total of eight episodes and premieres on the streaming platform with three episodes on Wednesday, August 18. New episodes will continue to release weekly, on Wednesdays. McCarthy serves as executive producer on Nine Perfect Strangers as well.

Based on The New York Times bestselling book by author Liane Moriarty, Nine Perfect Strangers takes place at a boutique health-and-wellness resort that promises healing and transformation as nine stressed city dwellers try to get on a path to a better way of living. Watching over them during this 10-day retreat is the resort’s director, Masha, a woman on a mission to reinvigorate their tired minds and bodies. However, these nine “perfect” strangers have no idea what is about to hit them.

McCarthy is best known for her role as Molly on the hit CBS comedy Mike & Molly, which she directed several episodes of as well as won an Emmy Award and People’s Choice Award for. She has also won an Emmy award for Saturday Night Live, which she has hosted multiple times, and was both awarded the Inaugural People’s Icon Award at the 2018 People’s Choice Awards and the Comedic Genius Award from MTV. On the big screen, she is known for her work in Bridesmaids, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Superintelligence, The Kitchen, Life of the Party, The Boss, Ghostbusters, Spy, St. Vincent, Tammy, The Heat, Identity Thief, This is 40, The Hangover Part III, The Back-Up Plan, Life As We Know It, Pretty Ugly People, Just Add Water, The Nines, White Oleander, Pumpkin, Go, and Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal & Greed.

Recently, she can be seen in Netflix’s superhero comedy Thunder Force and also served as an executive producer for the film. In 2013, McCarthy and husband, Ben Falcone, founded On the Day Productions. Since then, they have produced many film and television projects, such as Tammy, The Boss, Life of the Party, Nobodies, Little Big Shots, Superintelligence, Thunder Force, God’s Favorite Idiot, Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, and Betrayal & Greed. On television, the actress can be seen in Gilmore Girls, Samantha Who?, Nobodies, God’s Favorite Idiot, and Little Big Shot. Upcoming projects include The Starling and Disney’s highly anticipated live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

Hall was nominated for an NAACP Award for her role as Dawn Towner in the hit Showtime comedy series Black Monday. The actress launched her production company Rh Negative and signed a six movie slate deal with ViacomCBS’ Entertainment & Youth Group. She can recently be seen in Breaking News in Yuba County. Hall is best known for her roles in Little, which she also executive produced, Girls Trip, The Hate U Give, and Support the Girls.

Other films credits include Shaft, When the Bough Breaks, Barbershop 3, The Best Man Holiday, Think Like a Man Too, About Last Night, Law Abiding Citizen, Paid in Full, and Scary Movie, as well as its three sequels. On television, she appeared on Grandfathered, Insecure, and Black-ish. Next, Hall will star in and executive produce the upcoming occult drama Master.
