The talented Idina Menzel plays the role of Vivian in the Amazon Original movie Cinderella. The new film is a musically-driven bold version of the traditional story you grew up with, following an ambitious young woman whose dreams are bigger than the world will allow. Cinderella is coming to Prime Video on September 3.
The actress became well known for her role as Maureen in the Broadway musical Rent and her career reached new heights with her Tony Award-winning role as Elphaba, also known as the Wicked Witch of the West, in the iconic musical Wicked. Menzel voiced the beloved role of Elsa in the Oscar winning film Frozen, which is the second-highest-grossing animated film of all time. Frozen’s signature song “Let It Go” was sung by Menzel and quickly became an international phenomenon, winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song and the Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media. It reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the first artist with both a Billboard Top 10 hit and a Tony Award for acting.
When it comes to film, the actress has starred in Enchanted, Frozen II, Uncut Gems, Rent, and Ask the Dust. Upcoming, she will be in Disenchanted. On television, Menzel was seen in Lifetime’s remake of Beaches and had a recurring role on the hit series, Glee.
She also sang the national anthem at Super Bowl XLIX, received the Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award at Billboard’s annual “Women in Music” event, and completed a worldwide tour that included Asia, the U.K., and North America.
Menzel’s successful recording career includes multiple cast albums and the solo albums, such as Still I Can’t Be Still, Here, I Stand, idina, and Holiday Wishes, a Christmas album that debuted atop Billboard’s Holiday Albums chart and gave Menzel a Top 10 album on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart.
Menzel’s other Broadway work includes If/Then, for which she earned her third Tony nomination, Aida, and the Encores! production of Hair. In London, she premiered the Broadway hit Wicked in the West End and received the Theatregoers Choice Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She also starred in See What I Wanna See. Other Off Broadway credits include the pre-Broadway production of Rent as well as The Vagina Monologues.
In 2012 Menzel released a CD and DVD titled Idina Menzel Live: Barefoot at the Symphony, a live concert with an orchestra led by legendary composer/conductor Marvin Hamlisch that was filmed at The Royal Conservatory’s Koerner Hall in Toronto. The concert also aired nationally on PBS stations.
