We are just recovering from some amazing Guillermo del Toro goodness, having just taken a walk down Nightmare Alley. But now, ahead of its December 2022 premiere date, del Toro has teased a first look at his stop-motion animated vision for Pinocchio. And as with all things he touches, it looks utterly divine!

Debuting on Netflix this December, del Toro’s reinterpretation of the classic fairy tale features silky-voiced Ewan McGregor as Sebastian J. Cricket. Rounding out the cast are David Bradley (the Harry Potter franchise, Game of Thrones) as Geppetto, Academy Award-winner Tilda Swinton, Academy Award-winner Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Academy Award-winner Cate Blanchett, John Turturro (The Batman), Golden Globe-winner Ron Perlman (Nightmare Alley), Tim Blake Nelson (Watchmen), and Burn Gorman (Enola Holmes).
Here’s a look at the first footage of McGregor’s Cricket below:
The film is directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr. Fox). Del Toro and Patrick McHale wrote the script. This will also be a musical, featuring song lyrics by del Toro and Katz, with music by Academy Award-winner Alexandre Desplat who will also write the score.
When you break down the checklist about everything that sounds amazing with this film, you’ll see it’s another in a long line of classic del Toro films that feature longtime mainstays like Perlman and Goorman, as well as recent collaborators like Blanchett and Desplat. What I’m trying to say is, it’s going to be gold, as is the case with everything that man touches.
