Everything We Know About Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Fabelmans’

The subtle change in temperature and the color of the leaves means that the seasons are changing — Summer Movie season to Oscar Season, that is! And leading the change among the numerous contenders bound for Oscar gold and glory is the latest from the greatest director of our time, Steven Spielberg: The Fabelmans. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming awards hopeful, hitting theaters November 11.

The Fabelmans is said to be inspired by Spielberg’s actual life. It tells the story of 16-year-old aspiring filmmaker Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel LaBelle), and how his relationships with his artistic mother (Michelle Williams) and scientific father (Paul Dano), as well as his uncles and siblings come to affect and drive his passions in becoming a great filmmaker and storyteller. The film also stars Seth Rogan, Judd Hirsch, Jeannie Berlin, Julia Butters, Robin Bartlett, and Keeley Karsten.

While officially hitting theaters wide in November, the film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this past month, where it garnered rave reviews, and a current Rotten Tomatoes score of 95% (of 58 critics so far). It will be making its US premiere at the AFI Film Festival, where it will close the event on November 6. It will be scored by the legendary John Williams, shot by legendary cinematographer Janusz Kaminski, and co-written by Spielberg, himself, with another longtime collaborator, Tony Kushner.

The film’s trailer debuted earlier this month and can be seen here:

All in all, as with all of Spielberg’s work, it’s looking to be heartfelt and beautiful, with characters that feel real, and a story that will stay with you forever. This one is definitely at the top of my most anticipated films list, for the year.
