‘Strange World’ Featurette Has Cast Promising an Exciting Adventure

Walt Disney Animation Studios has released the newest featurette for their upcoming feature Strange World. From directors  Don Hall (Oscar®-winning Big Hero 6, Raya and the Last Dragon) and co-director/writer Qui Nguyen (co-writer Raya and the Last Dragon), the film is a take on the classic pulp comics of the past and centers on a family exploring a strange world that is just as crazy and bizarre just as it is mysterious, thrilling and mind-blowing.

In the featurette we see the cast describe Strange World in so many, as Jaboukie Young-White puts it, so many vocabulary words. As the Clades venture into this very strange world, one that doesn’t look like any we’ve ever seen in a Disney animated movie, they will run into danger at every corner. “The flamethrower comes in pretty handy,” Dennis Quaid, who plays Jaeger, the eldest member of the Clade family, said.

But as the featurette continues, we start too see some of the film’s themes about family legacy. And of course, its fun to see some of the behind-the-scenes action like the castbeing very expressive as they do recording sessions in voice booths. What a refreshing sight to see after previous films had their respective cast and crew do all the work from their homes during the pandemic.

“It’s three generations learning to be ok with everyone charting their own course,” Gabrielle Union, who plays Meridian Clade, an accomplished pilot and Searcher’s partner in all things, said. “I love that.”

And of course, Splat, the film’s creature companion, steals the entire featurette with his mischievousness and curiosity.

Featured stars include Jake Gyllenhaal, who lends his voice to Searcher Clade, a family man who finds himself out of his element on an unpredictable mission; Dennis Quaid, who voices Searcher’s larger-than-life explorer father, Jaeger; Jaboukie Young-White, who is the voice of Searcher’s 16-year-old, adventure-seeking son, Ethan; Gabrielle Union, who provides the voice of Meridian Clade, an accomplished pilot and Searcher’s partner in all things; and Lucy Liu, who voices Callisto Mal, Avalonia’s fearless leader who spearheads the exploration into the strange world.

Strange World opens in theaters on November 23, 2022.
