Though The Mandalorian season two finale saw Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) part ways with Grogu, their separation was short-lived as the two were eventually reunited in the final episodes of The Book of Boba Fett. Together once again, they’ll travel across the galaxy in pursuit of adventure. And a new trailer reveals more of the overarching plot and character drama, which sees Din trying to make amends for his past transgressions and the Republic making an effort to move away from its dark past.
The trailer opens with Din saying that his people are scattered across the winds like stars in the galaxy. “What are we? What do we stand for,” he asks as he walks out of the shadows and amongst a group of fellow Mandalorians.
“Being a Mandalorian is not learning about how to fight,” Din says, “You also have to know how to navigate the galaxy. That way, you’ll never be lost.” The scene sees Din flying his new chrome Naboo Starfighter, with Grogu looking in awe at the sight of lightspeed.
The trailer then briefly transitions to Din landing his ship, where he is greeted by Greef Karga (Carl Weathers). But there is more to it than exchanging pleasantries. Later on, Din declares that he is going back to Mandalore to seek forgiveness for breaking codes like taking off his helmet.
Captain Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) warns that something dangerous is happening out there and by the time it becomes big enough for the person to act it would be too late. Since we don’t see who Teva’s talking to, we have to assume the person is vital to the future of the Star Wars lore. Of course, it could be Din. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Footage of Jedis igniting their lightsabers tells us we could be in for another flashback during the age of the Republic. And shots of tie interceptors and other tie fighters firing upon another ship bring some of those classic Star Wars dog fights to the new season.
The series also stars Katee Sackhoff, Amy Sedaris, Emily Swallow and Giancarlo Esposito. While we can expect some familiar faces in season 3, it’s unclear if Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett, Ming Na-Wen’s Fennec Shand, and Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano will make an appearance. Additionally, Christopher Lloyd and Tim Meadows have been cast in unspecified roles.
The directors of the eight-episode Season 3 include Rick Famuyiwa, Rachel Morrison, Lee Isaac Chung, Carl Weathers, Peter Ramsey and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Jon Favreau is the showrunner/head writer and serves as an executive producer along with Dave Filoni, Rick Famuyiwa, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist and Carrie Beck are co-executive producers.
The first episode of The Mandalorian season 3 debuts on March 1, 2022.
