First Look at Adele Lim’s R-Rated Comedy ‘Joy Ride’

It’s about damn time Asian women get their own raunchy comedy!

From the brilliant and hilarious minds of Adele Lim (Crazy Rich Asians), Cherry Chevapravatdumrong (Family Guy), and Teresa Hsiao (Awkwafina is Nora from Queens), Joy Ride stars Ashley Park (Emily in Paris), Sherry Cola (Good Trouble), Oscar nomiee Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All At Once), and newcomer and comedian Sabrina Wu as four unlikely friends embarking on a journey of identity and self-discovery as they travel across the world creating chaos wherever they go.

Park plays Ashley, a successful lawyer who must take a business trip to close a deal in China. She enlists her best friend and struggling hot mess of an artist Lolo (Cola) as her translator and tour guide; college-friend-turned-Chinese-superstar Kat (Hsu); and Lolo’s eccentric cousin Deadeye (Wu) — yes, their name is Deadeye. Like many R-rated adventure buddy films, these women go through hilarious and explicit situations, which was previously labeled JFC (Joy F*ck Club) as a filler.

In her directorial debut, Lim is excited to lean into the side of Asian-ness that the world doesn’t usually get to see — “the messy, R-rated, thirsty AF side.”

The film also stars Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians), Desmond Chiam (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Alexander Hodge (Insecure), and Chris Pang (Crazy Rich Asians).

Joy Ride is set to premiere June 23.
