Tati Gabrielle stars Marienne Bellamy in You. Part 1 and Part 2 of season four are currently streaming on Netflix.
After his previous life went up in flames, Joe Goldberg has fled to Europe to escape his “messy” past, adopt a new identity, and, of course, to pursue true love. But Joe soon finds himself in the strange new role of reluctant detective as he discovers he may not be the only killer in London. Now, his future depends on identifying and stopping whoever’s targeting his new friend group of uber-wealthy socialites…

Fans were introduced to Marienne back in season three and she managed to not only survive in this new season but also outsmart Joe. We get to see her reunited with her daughter, finally receiving her happy ending.
The actress told me, “It meant a lot because it, I mean, again speaking to just the experience of a lot of women of color that — to fight so hard for so long, and not even just through the time period that we see her in season four, but Marienne’s whole life, like from her childhood through everything, to fight so hard for so long and to finally just have some semblance of actual peace, to be rewarded for that battle, I think it was really important to see. I really thank Sera for allowing her to receive that ending and not becoming another victim of Joe’s.”
In 4×08, the character voices a fantasy narration to explain the story of how she ended up in the box.
“It was terrifying to tackle at first, it was my first time I think as an actor that I had to do so much work by myself, that I had nobody to feed off of or bounce off of that, and trying to tell a full story with just me. I wanted to make sure that I gave Marienne as many colors in that box as I possibly could to show the spaces that one’s mind actually goes when you’re in solitary confinement for a prolonged amount of time. So yeah, I wanted to make it as real and as visceral as possible, because it’s not something that’s light,” Gabrielle shared. “I’m just grateful for that sequence and the way that I was able to be challenged as an actor to go through all of that and plot it all out. Yeah, I could ramble about that forever but it was really cool.”

We had an amazing conversation about the importance of her character’s happy ending, her reaction to those major plot twists, filming her intense sequence in episode 8, and much more.
