‘Hailey’s On It!’ Exclusive Clip: Sing a Sea Shanty!

Are you ready for a music competition?!

The Nerds of Color have received an exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming episode of Disney+/ Disney Channel’s new original animated series Hailey’s On It. In the episode called “Splatter of the Bands,” Hailey must decide between perfection and fun in order to win a local music festival.

The clip features Hailey (Auli’i Cravalho), her father (Cooper Andrews), and his friends — who Hailey endearingly call her uncles or “funcles” because they’re fun uncles — as they prepare for an upcoming music competition. The funcles plan on singing the song they always sing every year “Help Me To My Hands to My Toes,” but Hailey discourages them from doing so. Instead, the bros decide to sing a sea shanty — a genre of traditional folk songs commonly sung on ships. Hailey is unsure, but trusts her father and his friends.

A little bit of Hailey’s Hawaiian culture is shown in the clip, as family friends are considered family. “It’s a Hawai’i thing,” says Hailey. Although that aspect is very charming, it’s seeing the inclusion of a disabled uncle as part of the “Funcle” tribe that wins this scene. The Uncles are voiced by: Dallas Goldtooth, Amir Talai, John Eric Bentley, and Ken Tatafu.

The episode airs June 9 on Disney+ and on June 24 on the Disney Channel.
