Emilia Clarke and Ben Mendelsohn play G’iah and Talos in Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion. The thrilling, new espionage series premieres June 21, exclusively on Disney+.
In “Secret Invasion,” set in the present day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart the imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.
“Well, it [being a fan] just adds a little extra spice, really. It definitely adds a little extra pressure, but I was very, very lucky in that all of my fears and all of my trepidations were able to dissolve when actually meeting the wonderful human beings that are attached to this show, not only from the creative side but also the cast and this guy [Mendelsohn]. Thank you, Marvel, for putting this man in my life! I love him so much, we had such a good time,” Clarke told me. “Any fears that I had and any intimidation that I had just like flitted away when I got to work with him. So it all worked out really well, but in the beginning, yeah, I was terrified.”
“I’ve never had it so good, that’s the truth of this. I have never had it so good and we were so lucky to be able to get Emilia to come and do this part and be a part of this because what she brought to it, you can’t understand the dimensions that someone of Emilia’s capability and the secret thing is she’s just incredibly giving, [an] incredibly gentle down to earth person,” Mendelsohn expressed. “At the end of the day, it ain’t about us. It’s all about the audience. It’s only ever about the audience and Marvel are the best there is, you know? They are the best there is at doing that and I would have worried about a lot less things in life if I knew I was going to end up here.”
