Fans of the upcoming Suicide Squad film — myself included — may have noticed some footage going around on the internet this morning. It looks to be a new trailer for the James Gunn-directed reboot The Suicide Squad.
The trailer footage, which has not been shown before — and I have not seen WB post anything about it — reveals a little bit more about prison inmate and trained mercenary, Robert DuBois (Idris Elba) aka Bloodsport. In order to get Bloodsport to join her Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) threatens to send his daughter Tyla (Storm Reid) to prison.
He, with Captain Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), leads a bunch of villains — including Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Peacemaker (John Cena), Nanaue aka King Shark (Sylvester Stallone), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior), Savant (Michael Rooker), Blackguard (Pete Davidson), T.D.K. (Nathan Fillion), Weasel (Sean Gunn), Javelin (Flula Borg), and Mongal (Mayling Ng) — on an undisclosed mission to South America to destroy every evidence of Project Starfish, which we know as Starro.

There are some funny antics between the team as they try to figure out what Weasel actually is. Blackguard asks, “Is this thing a dog?” Captain Boomerang, clearly in disbelief, asks, “A dog? What kind of dog do you think he is, mate?” T.D.K. guesses, “I’m going to go with Afghan Hound.” Harley chimes in, “Oh my God. Is it a werewolf?!,” which leads Blackguard to freak out at the idea of sitting next to a werewolf. Rick calms everyone down by telling them he’s not a werewolf, but a harmless weasel — who has killed 27 children.

In a separate scene, we learn more about Project Starfish during a briefing with Amanda Waller. Peacemaker, who asks very seriously, “Starfish is a slang term for butthole. Is there any connection?” In her usual deadpan manner, she responds “no.” We do get to see Starro in action as it pulls King Shark into a building and the gang are shooting at Starro as it releases spores to attack the city.

Overall, it looks like Gunn is having so much fun creating this story. It’s also always great to see hear more of Sylvester Stallone as King Shark. We really hope to see more and get an explanation on why there’s no official footage presented by WB or Gunn himself. Did someone at WB make a huge mistake and post this footage? Either way, it looks pretty fun.

Also, I would die for that rat.
The Suicide Squad premieres on August 6 in theaters and on HBO Max.
