Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, typically the main event for the annual show, is looking to be like a lighter affair this year. With several major studios dropping out due to the current WGA strike and a potential SAG-AFTRA strike, big budget movies aren’t getting a lot of representation at the convention this year. But in some ways, that opens up the door for international films to really shine! And such is the case with the upcoming Indian blockbuster, Project K.
The wonderful thing about audiences these days is how people are starting to open up a little more to international films. With the success of a movie like RRR last year — easily one of the best movies of 2022 — the door is open for movies like Project K to be breakout worldwide successes. We aren’t just counting big budget Hollywood releases anymore as the only success stories in films. And Project K making a big debut in the same room where The Avengers were first assembled, means that there’s an opportunity for a huge impact and spotlight to be shed on a movie this huge, which would otherwise be overshadowed by a major studio announcement at the same convention. This is, of course, something we consider to be a huge triumph.
Produced by one of the biggest production companies in India, Vyjayanthi Movies, which has been around for over 50 years, Project K is said to be a huge sci-fi epic with a budget that’s considered to be one of the most expensive in the history of Indian cinema (approximately ₹600 crore, or $75 million). It stars international superstars Prabhas, Nag Ashwin, Kamal Hassan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone.
Per the official press release:
“Project K will host a panel with special guests, including renowned stars Deepika Padukone, Prabhas, and Kamal Haasan from the upcoming film on July 20 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m in Hall H. Project K will unveil the film’s title, teaser trailer and release date, and treat attendees to a special performance on Comic-Con’s largest stage. This exclusive event will transport guests into India’s most ambitious cinematic universe yet with their captivating storytelling, futuristic setting, and ‘Spice Punk’ aesthetic inspired by the film.”
It sounds like fans in attendance at Hall H on Thursday, July 20, will be getting their minds blown! And we can’t wait to see what the team behind Project K has in store for all of us!
