Asif Ali, Saagar Shaikh, and Poorna Jagannathan Preview ‘Deli Boys’

While covering the Disney 2024 Upfront Red Carpet, I had the chance to speak with Asif Ali, Saagar Shaikh, and Poorna Jagannathan about Deli Boys and their characters! The new series is coming soon to Hulu.

“Our characters are just like, so fucking cool and they’re fun. The thing that I liked most about Raj, who I play, is I feel like I’ve been that guy before, except without the money. And yeah, it’s just really fun to show the world that this kind of brown person exists, that we’re not all just like doctors, lawyers, engineers, or whatever,” Shaikh shared. “It’s been really fun to portray a flawed character.”

“I love this character. She’s not a mob boss’s wife, she’s like a mob boss,” Jagannathan expressed. “I mean, we haven’t seen this character, definitely not in any South Asian character depicted but across TV, you haven’t seen a character like her. She’s powerful and nurturing, and has to deal with these two dumbasses all day long.”

Ali then added, “The show is so funny. It’s so great. It showcases South Asian people in a way that I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a comedy. It’s got action, heart, violence, drugs, and family. It’s an incredible show. I’m very excited to be a part of it. I’ve never been in a show like this before and this kind of a dynamic, this kind of a setting, and also, all the guest stars, and it’s just a great showcase of where we can go.”
