Retta plays Claudette in Hit Man. The new film, which is based on the Texas Monthly Article by Skip Hollandsworth, is currently streaming on Netflix.

Inspired by an unbelievable true story, a strait-laced professor discovers his hidden talent as a fake hit man. He meets his match in a client who steals his heart and ignites a powder keg of deception, delight, and mixed-up identities.
“Rick is very easy to work with, and I personally like to rehearse. I like knowing what we’re taking into set, so I knew that going in, that that was ahead of me. And then, Glen is just a lovely person to be around,” the actress told me. “It’s nice to work with people you actually can stand being in the room with. So in that respect, it was great. I appreciated it, and I looked forward to it.”

We discussed how she viewed the story’s crime elements as a puzzle, bringing herself to the role, reuniting with Richard Linklater and Glen Powell, the unique preparation she did for the project, and more.
