A Horror Film Festival Exclusively For Women of Color

On October 21, 2024, entertwine will hold its third annual international Horror Film Festival for women of color at Vidiots in Eagle Rock, CA. Considering that the horror genre is overly saturated with cis-hetero white men, I find incredible promise in such a festival like this and while it’s only in their third year, the festival is a tremendous necessity.

Why Horror for women of color?

Horror in the past has been limited to people of color and women. Films of the horror genre are stereotypical or limited at portraying this group of people. entertwine’s International Horror Festival is the opportunity to break the mold and step into a genre that doesn’t normally see the artistry of people of color and women crafting this type of movie. This festival is here to show there are no limitations for women of color.

Originally structured as a 48-hour film festival, entertwine has expanded into accepting ready-made shorts, with an homage to the 48-hour roots. The 48-horror challenge is the challenge of the festival as it centers around the tight 48-hour time frame. The competitors from around the world are given two days to write, shoot, and edit their short film. To ensure an even playing field the competitors are given three easter eggs that must be included in the films. Easter Eggs to be revealed September 20, 2024.

The top 10 films will be screened at Vidiots in Los Angeles. The best film will receive $500 in cash. The best film made within 48 hours will receive $250 in cash.

Note: If you have the best film AND it was made in 48 hours the total prize money is $750
