At long last, we have our first trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps! It had been a long time coming, but Marvel’s first family is officially here!
After blasting off at a special Good Morning America event at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL, cast members Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach debuted the first trailer for the highly anticipated Marvel Studios produced reboot. Take a look here:
The look of the film, from director Matt Shakman (WandaVision, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters) is gleefully retro. And from a tone standpoint, it’s bright, optimistic, and warm. If there’s one thing I would critique it’s that the VFX on The Thing needed a touch more work. But overall, I loved the feel for this one.
I also love that this version, much like the Tim Story films and even the reviled Josh Trank one, mixes things up and embraces diversity within the casting of the core family members. Story’s films famously featured Jessica Alba as Sue Storm, and Trank unapologetically cast a pre-MCU Michael B. Jordan as one of the few highlights of an otherwise deplorable film. Here we have Pascal leading the team as our new Reed Richards, and it looks like he’s absolutely crushing it as The First Family’s patriarch. So seriously loving how much the title and its history have been quite inclusive.
In addition to the trailer we also got our first peek at some new posters for the film, which you can see in the gallery below:
The Fantastic Four: First Steps launches in theaters on July 25.
