Tom Hiddleston stars as Charles ‘Chuck’ Krantz in The Life of Chuck. The film will be released by Neon in select cities on June 6 and everywhere on June 13. I caught up with the actor to talk about a choice he made in the moment for his character and the magic of embracing life’s uncertainty.
From the hearts and minds of Stephen King and Mike Flanagan comes THE LIFE OF CHUCK, the extraordinary story of an ordinary man. This unforgettable, genre-bending tale celebrates the life of Charles ‘Chuck’ Krantz as he experiences the wonder of love, the heartbreak of loss, and the multitudes contained in all of us.

“As far as I’m aware, none of us know or have the privilege of knowing the day or the date that our lives will end, and we live with that uncertainty all the time,” he expressed. “It could be 40 years from now, or it could be sooner, and I think the great magic of being alive is actually embracing that uncertainty and doing the best with what you have and that it takes great courage to hold on to what’s good in a world that feels like it’s falling apart. But hold on to the people you love, to the people who matter. Dance, or do math, or whatever it is that makes you feel alive, that gives you joy because joy is actually a transformative force, and it can spread like wildfire. Just like the other things, just like doubt, and just like fear. Joy actually can transform people, and if you live with joy and with gratitude, that can actually have a really profound effect on your life and on others’ lives. But it doesn’t have to be dancing or math, it could be playing the piano, or it could be running, or it could be painting, or music, or writing, or whatever it is that gives you that feeling of being alive, do that. Life is precious. Life is brief. None of us are here for long, and those things and people are to be cherished. “
