Javicia Leslie and Deniz Akdeniz Talk Dream ‘High Potential’ Storylines

ABC’s High Potential is back for its second season, with new episodes airing on Tuesdays at 10 pm ET. Javicia Leslie and Denis Akdeniz return as Daphne and Lev “Oz” Ozdil, respectively. While covering the 2025 Disney Upfront red carpet, I spoke with the actors about how the show challenges them, dream storylines, and more.

High Potential follows a single mom with an exceptional mind, whose unconventional knack for solving crimes leads to an unusual and unstoppable partnership with a by-the-book seasoned detective.

What are you most excited to explore for your characters in this new season, and is there a dream storyline that you would like to see in the future?
Akdeniz: Firstly, I’d like to solve the case of the person who has been playing games with us, the serial Game Maker, because there were some repercussions that need to be answered for. And then, as a dream? Something that takes them to somewhere really exclusive that we get to go. Like a Disneyland case, I’m just putting it out there. I mean, ABC, Disney.
Leslie: This is the second idea you’ve come up with that needs to be given to the showrunners.
Akdeniz: I’m in the right place for it.
Leslie: We came up with an idea, like a case where we have to end up babysitting the kids, how fun that would be.
Akdeniz: At Disneyland! We’re doing it.
Leslie: And then, maybe a case happens there, you never know.

Which attraction at Disneyland would you want to see your characters ride?
Akdeniz: Let’s complete the synergy: let’s go to Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy. They’re going up and down, lights go out, and something happens there, you know? I mean, I’m not a writer, but there’s something there.
Leslie: I like to eat, so whatever happens in the food court, I’m down for that.

How have these roles challenged you in a way that you have not experienced with past projects?
Akdeniz: There’s a lot of policing, real quick, and every week, a lot of crimes happen, so I think keeping up with the jargon. I am not a police detective. I am trying to be a police detective, so a lot of that research and figuring that element of it out is very new to me, even though I’ve done policing shows before; this is quite unique to itself.
Leslie: I think what has challenged me the most is that I am actually not great with electronics at all. I don’t even know how to work Facebook anymore. I think that’s way over my head. And so, for Daphne to be such a computer geek, I love that that is something that I have to work on and pretend professionally.

New episodes are available to stream the next day on Hulu.
