‘Ghost in the Shell’ x JINS Collab Eyewear for Everything Your Cyberpunk Heart Ever Wanted

Since July 16, JINS has launched its limited-edition collaboration with the legendary sci-fi franchise The Ghost in the Shell in the U.S., translating its cyberpunk aesthetic and tactical hardware into functional eyewear designed for everyday use.

I was able to make my way to my local JINS store to try on the collaboration and when I say that the overall design, cyberpunk aesthetic and feel of the glasses blew me away and made every other pair of glasses in the store vying for my attention pale in comparison, I’m not even exaggerating.

Every aspect of the frames is artfully curated, to the point that even the nose guard made me gasp in appreciation. The weight and durability of the frames definitely felt like something that a cyberkinetic human would sport in their quest to bring justice to the world, while simultaneously looking extremely stylish at the same time.

And to further drive home the cyborg feel, the added jack to plug into the sunglasses and optical glasses make you feel that much closer to Motoko Kusanagi. But let me bore you no longer with my sordid details of broken dreams — here’s the rundown on the actual collection.

JINS made it official: this Ghost in the Shell collab already hit stores and the JINS website back on July 16, and it’s a genuinely perfect pairing if you ask me. The franchise has been reshaping sci-fi since its manga debut back in 1989, and JINS is riding the momentum of the current anime series to bring the gadgets we’ve only seen on screen into real life. Think of it less as merch and more as tactical daily gear — glasses built to look like something out of the show while still holding up to actual, everyday wear.

JINS didn’t stop at the frames, either — the launch also brought newly commissioned key art rolling out across their retail stores and a dedicated online hub built around the collab. The showstopper of the line is JINS’ first-ever electronic photochromic sunglasses, and there were only 1,000 pairs made worldwide, so if you want a pair, don’t sleep on these. The lenses use liquid crystal film tech to shift opacity in real time depending on the light around you, and the frame adjusts to fit your face for a fully-immersed, genuinely futuristic feel.

On the optical side, there are four styles across two designs, all built from aluminum and stainless steel for that raw, mechanical look. JINS’ Multi-Directional Movement Hinge keeps things comfortable no matter how you move, and every pair ships with its own cleaning cloth featuring key art straight from creator Masamune Shirow’s original designs — a nice little nod for anyone who’s been with this franchise from the start.

And as if living your futile attempt of being a cyborg wasn’t enough, the latest iteration of The Ghost in the Shell is out on Amazon Prime, with new episodes out every Tuesday 730am PST / 1030am EST. While I am more of a binge heavy type person, consider me sat and plugged in weekly for this series. Haters gonna hate, but I am loving this most faithful adaptation from the manga version of Motoko Kusanagi.

Not only do we have our beloved killer femme fatale, but she’s also got sass and childish playful humour one has waited decades to be brought to the screens. Complaints of there not being enough fan service be damned, if you wanted to watch a hentai, you know where to go.
