‘Street Fighter’ Cast Lightning Kicks Its Way to Theaters

Street Fighter is the action-packed, camp-filled video game adaptation we’ve been waiting for. Last week, we had the opportunity to speak with stars Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, and Callina Liang about their roles in the film, training preparation, and dedicating this film to the video game franchise’s fans.

The long wait for this film is finally here, and the cast has just wrapped up a global tour promoting Street Fighter. At an early screening of the film, we finally got a full look at the complete storyline. Former friends Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) and Ryu (Andrew Koji) spent their youth training together up until they became adults, where Ryu competes in and wins his first World Warrior Tournament. What follows is Ryu’s unintentional exposure to a darker power, the death of their training mentor Gouken, and a friendship divided by jealousy and guilt.

Now it’s 1993, and a new world warrior tournament is taking place, backed by the ruthless M. Bison (David Dastmalchian). While M. Bison is planning on using this tournament to lure Ryu out from hiding, Ken Masters sees it as an opportunity to make a name for himself outside of his gimmicky brand endorsements. It’s Chun-Li (Callina Liang) who recruits both former friends into the tournament, pulling them back into each other’s orbit whether they like it or not. The tournament features some of the most popular characters from the game, including Akuma (Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i), Guile (Cody Rhodes), Dhalsim (Vidyut Jammwal), Balrog (Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson), Blanka (Jason Momoa), and more.

We recently sat with Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, and Callina Liang in person to talk more in-depth about their work in bringing their respective characters to life. We also had a chance to talk about their training experience, along with just how much it means to them to bring this film to fans of the video game franchise.
