Donald Glover has won numerous awards and praise for his portrayal in NBC’s Community, FX’s Atlanta, and as rapper Childish Gambino, but his biggest dream is finally coming true in this month’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.
In the Solo: A Star Wars Story press conference last Saturday, Glover told the audience how being a Star Wars fan was instilled in him at a young age due to his father. Now, Glover is playing the iconic smuggler and playboy, Lando Calrissian.
“I told my agent, I was like, if they’re making anything with Lando in it, I have to be Lando,” Glover explained. “And… and he was like, I hear you. I don’t like your odds. And, that was exactly what I needed to hear. ”
After several auditions, Glover was given the role. He told the audience how he treated the audition.
“Because I really did audition like it was like the only role I wanted in the world, because it really was — I’m just really happy to be part of this experience of it,” Glover revealed. “It’s really cool, but yeah, like, yeah, my dad kind of… imprinted me with this kind of Star Wars longing. Because it does feel like the Bible to me in a lot of ways.”
You can check out Glover as Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story on May 25th.
