Ten Years Later, ‘The Dark Knight’ Returns to Theaters

On July18, 2008, The Dark Knight was released in theaters and changed things… forever. Ten years later, Warner Bros. is re-releasing Christopher Nolan’s seminal superhero film in select IMAX theaters for one week only.

The exclusive limited engagement will offer the public an extremely rare opportunity to see The Dark Knight in IMAX 70mm film

Tickets for the opening day go on sale this Friday, July 20, with showtimes only announced for August 24. The theaters will list additional showtimes for subsequent dates closer to release. These are the theaters showing this special edition of The Dark Knight:

  • AMC Universal Citywalk IMAX, Universal City
  • AMC Lincoln Square IMAX, New York City
  • AMC Metreon IMAX, San Francisco
  • Ontario Place Cinesphere IMAX, Toronto

Starring Christian Bale as Batman and Heath Ledger in an Oscar-winning role as Joker, The Dark Knight is still considered a transcendent piece of cinema and elevated the comic book movie to high art. Not only was it the first superhero film to cross the $1 billion threshold, it redefined how movie audiences perceived comic book movies — for good or ill. Like Harvey Dent famously says in the movie…

Catch it in IMAX if you’re lucky enough to be in one of the four cities listed above!
