Adapted from the successful award-winning fantasy novels by Leigh Bardugo, fans have been wondering just how Netflix was going to mesh the Grishaverse trilogy with the Six of Crows duology for Shadow and Bone. With the release of the official trailer, we get a glimpse of how the beloved Crows play into Alina Starkov’s story.
In the trailer, we learn of Alina’s (Jessie Mei Li) powers to summon light and how necessary she is to destroy the evil entity known as The Shadow Fold which separates the country of Ravka. Grisha leader, General Kirigan (Ben Barnes) aka The Darkling, controls shadows and darkness and begins to train Alina for what’s to come.
Separated from the only friend she has, Mal (Archie Renaux), Alina must find the strength and courage to get the job done. Unfortunately, people are after her powers, which is how the Crows play into the new storyline. The Crows, which consists of Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter), Inej (Amita Suman), and Jesper (Kit Young), take on the job to kidnap Alina and bring her to their boss. We get to see our favorite team at play in the trailer — Kaz’s intense stares, Inej’s skill with knives, and Jesper’s talent with gun slinging. Alina and Kirigan’s powers were first displayed in the teasers, but the new trailer showcased some of the other Grisha powers at play — wind, fire, and heart.
Eric Heisserer (Arrival, Bird Box) serves as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Bardugo.
