EPISODE 026 SPECIAL GUEST: Tammy Vince Cruz ‘aka’ Ninang NuNu
BIO: Hailing from south of Seattle, Tammy Vince Cruz is a graphic designer, obsessed with her cat Waffles, and works for Pikachu at The Pokémon Company International. With a degree in Digital Graphic Design, she currently rocks packaging design during the day, and tackles personal project, Ninang NuNu, by moonlight. Favorite pastimes include 80s karaoke, comfy cosplay, and learning about AAPI history. Her Pantone Color is 7514 C, and CMYK Values are C=16 M=37 Y=43 K=0. A solver of visual design challenges, she’s on a path of solving and integrating her Filipino heritage into her personal work, and aiming to inspire and encourage budding Filipinx artists to find their own journey.
What is Ninang NuNu? “Ninang NuNu is currently a line of stickers, prints and stationery dreamt up by Tammy Vince Cruz. Born from a continuing journey of self-acceptance and love for Tammy’s Filipino heritage and culture, it serves as a connection and education. Ninang NuNu has hints of 80s/90s nostalgia (electric in palette, bastos in nature), a remix of pop culture from the United States and the Philippines. It aims to be witty, healing a widely dispersed diaspora via laughter; it’s comforting if you “get” it, no explanation needed.
Ninang NuNu serves as Tammy’s creative outlet, and a tribute to the many Filipina women in her life.. Ninangs are THE best (definitively), and becoming one comes with a lot of responsibility AND a lot of affection (Lolas, Nanays and Titas, Ates are not excluded). Happily, Ninang NuNu is the “cool” Tita – she’s proud of you, supports you, and lets you sip from her glass of tuba anytime.”
