NOC Interview: Renée Elise Goldsberry Discusses Her New Peacock Original Comedy, ‘Girls5eva’

Renée Elise Goldsberry steals the show in Peacock’s newest comedy Girls5eva, which premieres on Thursday, May 6. The best part is all eight episodes will drop at once! And trust me, you won’t want to stop watching. In the female-led series, the actress and singer is joined by Sara Bareilles, Paula Pell, and Busy Philipps.

When a one-hit-wonder girl group from the ’90s gets sampled by a young rapper, its members reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot. They may be grown women balancing spouses, kids, jobs, debt, aging parents, and shoulder pain, but can‘t they also be Girls5eva?

Goldsberry originated the role of Angelica Schuyler in the hit original Broadway production of Hamilton. The actress is also known for her role as Quellcrist Falconer in Netflix’s Altered Carbon. Now, she’s bringing the character of Wickie Roy to life. Plus, she also might have told me she’s finishing up an album — but you’ll have to watch my interview with the singer to find out!

Goldsberry and I talked about being part of such an empowering female-led project, what message she hopes the show gives viewers, a catchphrase to describe Wickie, and more!
