‘La Borinqueña’ Returns with Issue #3 and New Heroes

Eisner Award-winning graphic novelist and philanthropist Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez has released La Borinqueña #3, the long-awaited third issue in the creator-owned independently published graphic novel series. La Borinqueña #3 completes the first major story arc for Miranda-Rodriguez’s series with a new story with plot twists, revelations, and the introduction of the new superhero team The Nitainos.

The Chinese Dominican character La La Liu originally debuted in 2016 at the Smithsonian Asian-Pacific American Center’s pop-up exhibition CTRL+ALT in New York City’s Chinatown. She returns with La Borinqueña as the new Asian-Latinx superhero Luz and with her a new superhero team that will expand the La Borinqueña universe.

Said Miranda-Rodriguez:

After five years of writing and producing the graphic novel series La Borinqueña, I’m very excited to provide fans with a solid conclusion to my story. My hope is that this new graphic novel not only rewards their patience but inspires them to share our stories with others. Loyal readers will pick up that I’ve been planting seeds for this big story since the first graphic novel that debuted in 2016 and into the DC Comics crossover benefit anthology Ricanstruction: Reminiscing & Rebuilding Puerto Rico. In an era that challenges systemic racism and celebrates narratives around BIPOC, I celebrate love and diversity with our Afro-Puerto Rican and our Asian-Latinx superheroes.

La Borinqueña #3 is available now at the official store and on September 1, 2021 on Amazon.com.
