Discussing Old Hollywood with ‘Babylon’ Breakout Star Diego Calva

This Friday, the world is going to remember the name Diego Calva when they witness Babylon; the latest from Whiplash director, Damien Chazelle. The potential awards contender is slated to hit theaters around the globe and features some really terrific performances from Margot Robbie, Jean Smart, Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, and many others.

However Calva absolutely dominates in his role as up-and-coming Hollywood executive Manny Torres, in by far, one of the best mainstream debuts to hit the screen in the past few years. And we at The Nerds of Color were so fortunate to get up-close-and-personal (virtually) with Calva about his role in this fascinating, compelling new film!

Babylon‘s core story centers on the rise and fall of three characters in the golden era of filmmaking, at the dawn of the talking pictures. Calva’s character, Manny Torres, is the figure in which we see the rise and fall of the silent era. His relationships with Brad Pitt’s Jack Conrad and Robbie’s Nellie LaRoy drive this wild, surreal love letter to filmmaking as a whole.

To see what Calva had to say about the film check out our interview right here:

We’ll also have more interviews for Babylon coming soon. So stay tuned to The Nerds of Color for more!
